Hi Caroline, I think the topic you chose for your essay is interesting and original. With the way you sequenced your pictures, we really get the feeling that we are following this woman getting ready to go out to the bar/restaurant. The sequence is in a chronological order and shows us step by step how she is getting ready. We can feel the excitement on her face in the first picture. Then, I really like the close up on the action of putting lipstick on, in the second picture. It is very sharp, good lighting, and I like how we can see the texture of the lips. I think that the fifth picture is a good transition to the next part of the essay, because we see her leaving her apartment to actually go out, we are changing place. I like the shadows on the door and behind the mirror. There is also a good contrast with the white wall since the woman is wearing black pants and shoes. The brown color of the hardwood floor fits well with it too. It adds some color. The sixth picture is a good transition as well since we see her going out of her car, letting us know that she arrived to the place she planned to go to. I like the angle pretty much. We see the action of her leaving the car and about to close the door behind her. I also like that you used the flash for this one, it looks very good! For the seventh picture, it is interesting to see that you used what we learned in class about focusing on the foreground (the drink and the fingers) for it to be sharp and making the background blurry. I think you used this technique pretty well and it looks good in your picture. Plus, the drink is so sharp that we can see the condensation and the water droplets on the glass, and it lets us imagine how cold the drink is. It makes me thirsty! Finally, I like your last picture very much. Again, the focus is more on the glass. This is a very good angle for this picture and I particularly love the lighting! The background is good as well since we can see different colors and also the bar behind her. It makes me feel like I am in the restaurant as well and living the moment. This photo looks so dynamic and I like the atmosphere you created with your composition (the action of the person, the angle, the lightening, and the background). To me, all your images were essential to your essay. It isn’t repetitive, or "too much". I think it is the perfect amount, and each image is unique and shows a different action. None of these pictures look the same, which keeps us interested. I think that many people, me included, can relate to your topic since it is common for young adults to go out sometimes and go to the restaurant with friends. I am not very sure how you could have improved this project. I think it already looks very good the way it is. You really did a great job!
